This was a happy read ~ nothing deep or thought provoking ~ but a charming little story nonetheless.Trelenny has lived in the country her entire life and you might say she has cabin fever. She also thinks Cranford is a stick-in-the-mud and she's rebelling at the prospect of marriage to him. For his part, Cranford seems hypercritical of her and she naturally resents that.
Cranford offers to take Trelenny and her mother to Bath for a holiday where Trelenny learns that Cranford isn't stodgy, after all (we already knew that) and Cranford learns that vivacious Trelenny isn't foolish nor is she brainless.
There's merriment and a little adventure and, of course, an HEA.
I enjoyed this little tale. It was well written, the characters were fleshed out, it moved speedily along, no dangling loose ends, and it didn't require many of my limited brain cells. It was a little on the fluffy side but that's what my mood required at the time.
Enjoy your reading! :)

Holiday in Bath edition by Laura Matthews Romance eBooks Reviews
I enjoyed this book.
They were both flawed - she was a little thoughtless and he acted more like a brother than a potential lover at first. It was nice to see the affection grow between them and she matured and he loosened up. There was something very romantic about the hero - I couldn't quite figure out how he was different than all the other heroes in regency novels but he was. The "supporting" characters were well drawn. And his sister's reaction to them both at the end was delightful!
This was such a charming novel. Both heroine and hero were so likeable. And the growing romance was so subtle and sweet. I loved all the signs the two were falling in love without knowing it. Cranford is the closest thing to Knightly. My only complaint was that it was so short. I wanted more interaction between Trelanney and Cranford. Both the story and the characters could have been developed more. Other than that, I wanted the story to continue. PS - this novel included Lady Jane who was such a fun character in this book, however, be warned her own story, the Proud Viscount, is a huge disappointment in comparison.
Out of Laura Matthews many books, Holiday In Bath is one of the better reads. I liked it almost immediately - the heroine has some of that sparkling quality that so often appears in Heyer Heroines (in a very Grand Sophy/Faro's Daughter way.)
Instead of having the big bad villain like most regencies, this one deals more with bad first impressions. The story is skillfully done, the characters wonderfully written, and its very refreshing to note that the heroine's family is a happy one, with her parents in a loving marriage, instead of having the usual sad background tale. Its nice to see the characters slowly work past their bad first impressions of each other, become friends, and fall in love, without constant sniping or being compromised. This is a somewhat clean Laura Matthews book (some of her books go quite in depth with the whole marital relations thing, although not to eyebrow-raising extremes like some of the authors I've read.)
I do have one quibble, and that's the relationship between the hero's father and the hero, as well as the hero's background. The kind of abuse that the hero is subjected to by his father surely has more consequences than what is covered in the book. There are some very sad tableaus of the hero's back story, (read Hero gets abused/is reminded of previous abuse/his mother dies/he loses himself in wild activities) and the hero seems to react quite stoically to this. I find it decidedly odd that there is no lasting consequence on the hero's behavior - he's become a wonderful guy who's proud but still sympathetic and mindful of the heroine. He never really shares his sad back story with anyone else that matters - I would have loved to see the hero break down for once, really. I would have loved to see the heroine get wind of some of his hardships and offer some serious consolation, even if it had been in the 'friendly' stages. That would have really been something to read.
I enjoyed this book, and it was worth my money. I would further recommend The Nomad Harp, if you would like to read something similar.
What a wonderful everything! The story was interesting and engaging. The characters were amazing. What really struck me was how realistic everything was. Cranford visiting the brothel was a lot more believable than just reading about a rake 'giving his mistress her conge' and it was a lot more poignant when the cyprian refused to become his exclusively because she was happy and comfortable at the house. What I wish was that we could have seen a bit more of the rake Cranford really is as well as a bit more of the development between the hero and the heroine that leads to the romance. Cranford is such a beautiful character with his trauma and rebelliousness and his general sexiness. The heroine is awesome as well. It is very hard to write a hoyden who is realistic as well as likeable and sympathetic. Trelenny is great. She is irrepressible but honest and intelligent. She is not vaporize and she has a streak of Honor a mile wide. The secondary characters are also very well-done. At points I felt like this was one book in a series or perhaps a group of companion books who share characters and if so I will look them up. This is one of the best Regency Romances I have read. Highly recommended for all Regency Romance lovers. Do not miss this one!
